A Pathway to Liver Failure
“Understanding the Consequences of Untreated Fatty Liver: A Pathway to Liver Failure”
What Causes Fatty Liver?
Fatty liver, or hepatic steatosis, occurs when excess fat builds up in the liver.
THE PRIMARY CAUSES INCLUDE:
- OBESITY
- INSULIN RESISTANCE
- METABOLIC SYNDROME
- POOR DIET
- SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE
- GENETICS
- EXCESSIVE ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION:
SYMPTOMS OF FATTY LIVER
Fatty liver disease often has few or no symptoms in its early stages. However, as the condition progresses, individuals may experience:
- FATIGUE
- ABDOMINAL DISCOMFORT: Mild pain or discomfort in the upper right side of the abdomen.
- WEIGHT LOSS
- WEAKNESS
- JAUNDICE: Yellowing of the skin and eyes, indicating liver dysfunction.
- SWELLING: Swelling in the abdomen (ascites) or legs (edema) due to fluid retention.
- ENLARGED LIVER
- SPIDER ANGIOMAS: Small, spider-like blood vessels visible under the skin.
- PALOMAR ERYTHEMA: Redness of the palms.
- MENTAL CONFUSION
TYPES OF FATTY LIVER
- NON-ALCOHOLIC FATTY LIVER DISEASE (NAFLD)
- SIMPLE FATTY LIVER (STEATOSIS): Fat accumulation without significant inflammation or liver damage.
- NON-ALCOHOLIC STEATOHEPATITIS (NASH): Fat accumulation with inflammation and liver cell damage, potentially leading to fibrosis and cirrhosis.
- ALCOHOLIC FATTY LIVER DISEASE (AFLD):
- Caused by heavy alcohol consumption, leading to fat accumulation and liver damage.
DANGER EFFECTS ON THE SYSTEM IF NOT PROPERLY TAKEN CARE OF;
- PROGRESSION TO NASH: Simple fatty liver can progress to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), involving liver inflammation and damage.
- FIBROSIS AND CIRRHOSIS: Persistent inflammation can lead to fibrosis (scarring) and eventually cirrhosis, severely impairing liver function.
- LIVER CANCER: Increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a type of liver cancer.
- LIVER FAILURE: Advanced stages of cirrhosis can lead to liver failure, necessitating a liver transplant
- CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES: NAFLD is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, hypertension, and stroke.
- METABOLIC COMPLICATIONS: Worsening of conditions like type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
- OTHER HEALTH ISSUES: Fatigue, abdominal pain, and in severe cases, jaundice and ascites (fluid accumulation in the abdomen).
SOLUTIONS
- DIETARY CHANGES BALANCED DIET,
REDUCE SUGAR AND REFINED CARBS CUT - PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
REGULAR EXERCISE Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity weekly aerobic exercise. - WEIGHT MANAGEMENT
- MONITOR PROGRESS
- MEDICAL MANAGEMENT:
In some cases, doctors may prescribe medications to manage associated conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure. - HERBAL PRODUCTS:
- REMSOL ZAGA-CLEAN: A herbal supplement designed to support liver health and detoxification. Key ingredients include milk thistle (for liver cell regeneration), turmeric (anti-inflammatory properties), green tea extract (antioxidants)
